QDU Debating

The QDU secondary debating competition commences in March with 4 preliminary round debates during semester one. Successful teams then progress to the finals knockout rounds during July and August.

The Junior Secondary competition includes 4 round robin debates from July to October, with no finals.

Writing Prize

The Future Leaders Writing Prize is designed to recognise and reward talented young writers. It aims to encourage expressive and creative writing. Year 11 and 12 students in Australian secondary schools are invited to submit a piece of writing (800 to 1,000 words). The writing can be fiction or non-fiction and on any topic.

USQ’s Get Writing Prize is a short story and poetry competition for students in Years 7-12. All entrants have a chance to win membership to the Queensland Writers Centre and $200 worth of prizes. Steps to enter competition:

  1. Read terms and conditions (see link below)
  2. Get writing – Junior (Years 7-9) and Senior (Years 10-12) categories for short stories and poems.
    Short story entries should be no more than 500 words.
    Poetry entries should be no more than 30 lines.
  3. Register and submit entries online
