Interschool Sport
The school participates in Interschool Gala Sports on various days throughout the school year. Gala Days provided the opportunity for the students to participate in competitive sporting experiences against other schools in the West Brisbane Secondary School Sport Association. We aim to assist students to develop sporting skills, teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship.
Additionally, these days are used to determine the champion school that will represent the district at the Metropolitan Finals
where they verse other schools in South East Queensland. Kenmore is boasts a high track record of teams being successful and moving onto this next phase of competition.
A range of Senior and Junior Secondary Gala Sports are available each term. A full list of available sports can be found in our Interschool Gala Sports (PDF, 115KB) document.

Junior Gala Day
Junior Gala Teams are chosen from the Gala Day Sports Classes. Students sign-on for these at the end of each term during their sport lesson. See below for more information.
Senior Gala Day
Team sign-ons are advertised at the start of each term through the student notices, via email and on the VIVI boards. Students can then complete the survey via the link here (link available in Feb 2024) and it will also be sent to them via email.
Representative Sports and Trials
The school provides the opportunity for successful candidates to attend both district and regional sporting trials in their chosen sports. Please follow the link for the
District and Regional Trials for more information.
In addition to this there are The Big 3 – Swimming, Cross Country and Track and Field. Students are able to represent Kenmore SHS at the district carnivals for these events based on performance at our school carnivals and also by a nomination process with verified results.
Year 7, 8 and 9 Sport
Students are involved in a wide variety of physical activities and games at school through our Sport program. Each Year 7, 8 and 9 student will participate in 1 x 70 minute physical activity session a week, where they work in their Sport Class to build relationships and belonging through team work. This is separate to the school’s HPE curriculum.
The Junior Sport program incorporates both Gala Day sports and recreational sports activities.
Each term, students can nominate to be involved in a Gala Day sport. Gala Day sport classes will operate for the whole term, preparing for that term's Gala Day. The emphasis is on team work, skill development, training, tactics, and trial games. The Kenmore teams will be selected from these classes.
Students who elect not to be involved a Gala Day sport class will choose from a range of recreational sport activities.
Examples of the recreational sports / physical activities include:
Class Clash (2 classes compete each week in a variety of sports and games)
Ultimate Disc
Mental & Physical Wellbeing (including: yoga, meditation and walking)
Table Tennis
Strike Out (batting and running games)
E Sports
Soft Cross (variation of Lacrosse)
Dance
In order to be assigned to a Gala Day sport class or one of the top 3 preferences for a Recreational sports class, students must complete the survey offered to them towards the end of each term. The link can also be found here once this survey is up – Gala Day and Recreational Sports Sign On.
