A Head of Year is concerned with the welfare of all the year level students. He/she has the responsibility of ensuring a safe, ordered, predictable environment through the establishment and evaluation of systems, procedures and processes which provide all students with the freedom to pursue the school's goals and objectives in a personally meaningful way.
Some of the specific things year coordinators do to help are:
assist with the enrolment and induction and of new students
monitor student progress (academic, social, emotional)
counsel students
help form captains perform their duties
act as key person in the student behaviour management structure
establish effective communication links between school and home
communicate with parents and teachers about the progress and special needs of children
establish a procedure for monitoring student diaries
have input into and assist with major school ceremonies e.g. Awards Night
conduct the weekly year level assembly
counsel/monitor at risk students
help establish and supervise standards of conduct, dress and deportment
monitor student attendance
organise camps and year level activities
host Year Level Morning Teas for parents.
