The school participates in Interschool Gala Sports on various days throughout the school year. Premiership Gala Day teams progress to the Metropolitan Finals competition where they verse other schools in South East Queensland.
A range of Senior and Junior Secondary Gala Sports are available each term. Team sign-ons are advertised at the start of each term through the student notices. A full list of available sports can be found in our Interschool Gala Sports (PDF, 115KB) document.
All Gala Day and representative trial information will be advertised to students in the daily notices on the Student Intranet. For any further questions, students can see Sports Coordinator Mr Darren Kayrooz in the HPE Staffroom (upstairs in the Activities Centre).
Year 7, 8 and 9 Sport
Students are involved in a wide variety of physical activities and games at school through our Junior Sport program. Each Year 7, 8 and 9 student will participate in 1 x 70 minute physical activity session a week, where they work in their Sport Class to build relationships and belonging through team work. This is separate to the school’s HPE curriculum.
The Junior Sport program incorporates both Gala Day sports and recreational sports activities.
Each term, students can nominate to be involved in a Gala Day sport. Gala Day sport classes will operate for the whole term, preparing for that term's Gala Day. The emphasis is on team work, skill development, training, tactics, and trial games. The Kenmore teams will be selected from these classes.
Students who elect not to be involved a Gala Day sport class will be assigned to a recreational sport activity. These classes rotate to a new activity approximately every 5 weeks. By the end of the year, students will have participated in about seven different physical activities as well as participated in cross country practice, and the Interhouse Cross Country Carnival.
Examples of the recreational sports / physical activities include:
Upcoming district and regional trials are advertised in the student notices and on the District and Regional Trials page. Interested students will need to nominate through the survey link via the Student Notices and see Mr Darren Kayrooz in the HPE Staffroom (upstairs in the Activities Centre) to collect the trial paperwork.
