Instrumental Music

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Kenmore State High School offers students a variety of ensembles to suit various playing levels. Our award winning Instrumental Program consists of three Bands, two Percussion Ensembles and three String Orchestras which regularly perform in competitions, community events and concerts. Kenmore State High's music program provides students with a sense of spirit and belonging, as well as opportunities and skills beyond the classroom. ​

​Placement into the Instrumental Program is through an audition process at the beginning of each school year. 

Free tuition in woodwind, brass, strings and percussion is available at all levels to all students. Students who undertake tuition at school are required to join an ensemble. Membership of more than one ensemble is encouraged. Private guitar tuition is also available at a cost to students.​

Program costs

Students participating in the instrumental and/or vocal program will be charged $220 per annum. This fee covers the cost of music, folders, music uniform (waistcoat and bowtie), competition entry fees, some meals, bus hire, purchase and maintenance of instruments, instructors’ costs, accompanist’s costs and administration fees.

Students are able to hire the following instruments, if they are available, for $300 per year: 

  • tuba
  • euphonium
  • bass trombone
  • French horn
  • baritone and tenor saxophone
  • bassoon
  • bass clarinet
  • double bass

Students in junior ensembles will be required to purchase black trousers, black socks, black shoes and a black music polo. The polo is to be purchased from the uniform shop. Refer to the Junior ensemble uniform (JPG, ​​947KB)​.​

Students in senior ensembles will be required to purchase black trousers, a white shirt, black socks and black shoes to wear with the supplied waistcoat and bowtie. Refer to the Senior ensemble uniform (JPG, 1.3MB)​

​Some optional activities may be available to students in ensembles during the year which will attract an additional fee.
